The Perfect Son

By Frida Mcfadden

Book Rating: 4 out of 5 boozy stars

There is no feeling better than curling up with a good book, especially when that book is a Freida McFadden book. Much like her other work, The Perfect Son was a quick read that features Freida's signature short chapters and exciting plot twists. Overall, I enjoyed reading The Perfect Son, but it definitely was not my favorite that I have read from Freida thus far. Honestly, I might make a few people mad when I say that The Perfect Son was my least favorite Freida McFadden book to date...

Okay, don't hate me. Let me explain myself first. The Perfect Son was a page-turner and although it is my least favorite Freida McFadden book, it is not my least favorite book that I have read this year. I love Freida McFadden and I am an active member of her Facebook Fan Page, so believe me when I say that this was still a good read. The reason I did not enjoy The Perfect Son as much as I have enjoyed the other Freida books I have read this year is solely because of the ending and the plot twist.

It saddens me to say that this specific twist just fell short for me. Maybe it's because I have read so many of Freida's books this year that now I just think like her, but I guessed the twist about halfway through the book. Despite guessing, I still thought [and hoped] that Freida was going to outsmart me like she has done with most of her other books, but she did not. Normally when I get to the final twist in a Freida novel my reaction is palpable; my jaw hits the floor, my eyes widen as I reread the twist again in utter shock, and all the while I am vibrating and awestruck at the wonderful mind for twists that Freida possesses. When I finished The Perfect Son, I just sighed and closed the book. I did not even take the time to compose myself or reflect on the read before diving into my next book.

Although this wasn't my favorite from this author, I would still recommend it to others because it is still well written and will keep you guessing while you read. Also, I have friends who read and enjoyed this book without guessing the plot twist. Hopefully if you decided to read this book, you will be one of those lucky people who are shocked by the twist, because that always makes for the best thrillers.

You may be wondering why I paired this chocolatey drink with The Perfect Son... All I have to say is, read the book and you will just know

This drink only gets 3 boozy stars because I am not a huge fan of chocolatey alcoholic drinks. I prefer a nice spiker hot cocoa, but other than that I will usually pass.
